Light upon Light~

Never be without remembrance of Him,
for His remembrance
gives strength and wings
to the bird of the Spirit.
If that objective of yours
is fully realized, that is
"Light upon Light"...
But at the very least, by
practicing God's remembrance
your inner being
will be illuminated
little by little and
you will achieve
some measure of detachment
from the world.

"Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.
The parable of His Light is a niche wherein is a lamp—
the lamp is in a glass, the glass as it were a glittering star—
lit from a blessed olive tree,
neither eastern nor western,
whose oil almost lights up,
though fire should not touch it.
Light upon light.
Allah guides to His Light whomever He wishes.
Allah draws parables for mankind,
and Allah has knowledge of all things." 35: 24

The importance of Dhikr

I usually do dhikr during my morning commute to work. It takes about 30 mins to get to work and I love that I have that time to just remember Allah (swt).

There's never "nothing to do" and we often get "bored" or waste time by just watching tv or simply not doing anything!

Ibn Abbas narrated that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said:
"There are two blessings which many people lose: (They are) health and free time for doing good." (Bukhari 8/421)

So think about it before you say "there's nothing to do" or when you're driving or traveling, trying to sleep etc. Do some dhikr. It will brighten your morning, day & night!

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, today is a gift, that's why it's called the present!"
